In an effort to further help students with their mathematics homework, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has selected 15 school boards in Ontario to test out its new Homework Help! initiative. Not being allowed to have your own social media account usually comes down to two factors: 1. you’re not old enough to create one yet; and 2. your parents won’t let you create one. However, for the 16 remaining American Idol contestants, they are no longer allowed to have individual Twitter, Facebook and MySpace accounts, as of a drastic change in strategy last night by American Idol reps. Adult film star Ron Jeremy says parents need to be more aware of children’s exposure to online pornography.
Last month, Jeremy squared off against Pastor Craig Gross, founder of an anti-pornography website at the event “The Great Porn Debate” held at the University of Georgia. ChatRoulette.com is the latest fad to hit the social media list, but this one is a bit different and a lot less secure than your usual Twitter or Facebook. Chat Roulette is a video chatting website where a user simply goes on and presses ‘Play’ to begin chatting with random strangers. Don’t like what you see? Raised in a tiny village in the west of Ireland, Phoebe Prince and her family relocated last fall to South Hadley, Massachusetts so that “Phoebe could experience America.” At 15, Phoebe had adapted well into her new life. She was a freshman at South Hadley High School, her principal called her “smart and charming”, and she had a date for the school’s big event, the winter festival.
But on January 14th at 4:40 pm, Prince’s sister made an emergency call after finding her body hanging in her bedroom closet. Though Prince’s reasons remain unknown, police are investigating into “what effects the bullying might have had on the suicide.” Read the rest of this entry »
