David Schwimmer has a new project on his hands and this one seeks to teach the world about the dangers of online predators. Best known for his role as Ross on the hit 90’s sitcom Friends, Schwimmer co-wrote and co-directed Trust which tells the story of one young girl who becomes victim to an online sexual predator and the way in which this ultimately tore her family apart.

After working almost seven years on Trust’s script, the play can now be seen at the Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago until April 25th and explores the question of trust when meeting faceless strangers on the World Wide Web. Trust is said to be so emotionally intense that there are counselors available along with a question and answer forum at the end of each showing.

Alongside the play, Schwimmer is also currently editing the film adaptation which stars Clive Owen and Catherine Keener. Between flights back and forth between Chicago and New York, this former Friends star definitely seems to have his hands full while trying to educate the world about the sexual predators that lie behind the mask of the Internet.

“I wanted the play to reflect the culture that kids are living in, a culture of texting, chat rooms and Facebook and instant messaging,” says Schwimmer. “It’s completely changing kids’ attention spans, how they receive entertainment and how they socialize.”

Schwimmer has been associated with California’s Rape Foundation and has a special connection to the cause. “I had two former girlfriends who, it turns out, were each victims of child sexual abuse and date rape,” he explains.

Trust the movie is set to me released sometime next year. With a star-studded cast and a talent such as Schwimmer behind it, this is one movie that is sure turn some heads and hopefully open a few eyes to the dangers of online predators.

If you’re interested in learning more about the play, visit the official website here. Lookingglass theater is also offering a PDF study guide as a follow up to the play. You can view it here.

Awesome. Good to see quality actors doing something productive with their careers other than trying to hold on to the iota of limelight they have left by participating in all this reality garbage.

Wow..what a guy. That takes guts. He's really putting his career onthe line for doing something a little unordinatry. Unlike Spencer Pratt. Apparently he's had a chance of heart and wants to help out in internet safety too. Check it out here: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20351567,00.html

I totally don't believe him though.

    Good job David!
