How to Deal with SPAM emails

November 13th, 2008 by Kiwi Commons

SpamSpam is defined as unsolicited e-mails, often of a commercial nature, sent (though uninvited) to multiple mailing lists or individuals. Spam is also called “junk e-mail.”

Did you know that over 85% of the emails sent around the world every day are spam? Beat the inbox bog with these tips on dealing with spam emails in a safe, non-time consuming way:

1.) To start, never respond to spam! By making any attempt to contact the sender lets them know your email address is a functioning account. By opening or responding to their email means you are more likely to read and listen to their messages.

2.) If you don’t recognize the actual email address, do not open the email (even if it is addressed to you). Why? It may contain a virus. Save yourself the time and money of having your computer fixed and give the person a call and ask them if they sent you an email. Otherwise, ignore it.

3.) Do not use the “unsubscribe” or “remove me” option at the bottom of a Spam email. In normal emails the “remove me” function will take you off of the person’s list. In this case, by clicking the link you are confirming that their email is reaching a real person; so the last thing they would do is remove you from it.

4.) Never ever buy anything from a spam website. It may or may not be legitimate. If it is, you are supporting their mass emailing efforts of filling up people’s inboxes. In costs a few measly dollars to mass email people, so by purchasing their product, they’ve already made their money back from the email effort.
